“Given his diverse professional resume, along with his many accomplishments over the years in support of Hawai‘i’s working people, there is little doubt that Doug Chin will take and champion the unique issues facing Local 121’s membership to Congress. It is no secret that federal workers are facing fierce attacks in Washington to our pay, pensions, health care and our jobs, and it is critically important that we have a representative that will pick up right where Congresswoman Hanabusa will leave off in protecting us from these misguided attacks. Doug Chin has a track record of delivering on complex matters and IFPTE Local 121 is confident he will do so for us as a member of the United States House of Representatives,” said IFPTE Local 121 President Jamie Hiranaka.
“IFPTE is proud to extend our full backing to Doug Chin for this very critical congressional seat. Led by Congresswoman Hanabusa and Congressman Takai before her, the occupants of this particular seat have carved out a reputation of being leaders in championing all of the major federal employee concerns of not only federal workers in Hawai‘i, but all over the country. These issues, particularly those that are specific to Hawai‘i, require a loud and effective advocate to protect Hawai‘i’s federal workers. IFPTE believes that Doug Chin will do just that and we are happy to extend our union’s support for his candidacy.”
IFPTE’s endorsement comes after a vote by IFPTE Local 121 in Honolulu to support the candidacy of Hawai‘i Lieutenant Governor Doug Chin. IFPTE is an AFL-CIO affiliated labor union representing upwards of 90,000 workers in the private, public, and federal sectors. Included in the union’s membership are thousands of members represented by IFPTE Local 121 and employed at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, Naval Facilities Hawai‘i, Naval Facilities Pacific, Defense Logistics Agency Document Services and Command Navy Region.
